So I really needed a pick-me-up after devastatingly cutting my hair by mistake last week. Kind of like a godsend, I ran across this wonderful site called Curls Understood that had a wonderful article on 3 ways to dye you curls - damage free. I was feeling wild and crazy on the second day of chopping my hair off and tried dyeing my hair with some bright, unused, im-too-old-for-this eye shadow palettes I had laying around since I was going to be washing and deep conditioning my hair anyways that night.
I took inspiration from this video mostly because of the process of applying and having the color stick, but there are a lot of natural hair videos that try and do a similar process.
Applying the color was very similar to Meredith's process in the video above except I didn't use heat...nor gloves that time.
To say the least, if you don't use gloves...it's a mess - for your fingers, shoulders, floor, that black shirt you are wearing etc. Nonetheless I just wanted to see how the color would look on my texture of hair without it being blow dryed or anything like that. I then proceeded to wash it out (came out so easily) and decided to give it another go the following week.
This time I decided to apply it to only a few twists and only at the ends (next time I think I will do all the ends). I basically started with some week old twists (they were looking kind of mangy), so I wanted to do a curly twist out with a rod set and add the color during that time. I curled up the twists that were not being colored first then I put on some gloves this time and applied MILANI Bella Copper Gel Powder Eyeshadow(it is like $5 at CVS) to the ends of some of the twists using the same methods of Meredith's video. Applied the powder to the front and back side. Then I sealed in the color with some Mizani Hair Spray(although frankly I think any firm hold hairspray should work), I then proceeded to add some product and curled up those twists as well and sat under a soft bonnet dryer for 20 minutes. Afterwards I untwisted the twists and got my usual look but with some highlights here and there! Even three days out and with two trips to the gym, the color is still staying! (It probably will wash out this sunday though...)
