So last week I got my weave removed. I know, a major life event!!! Not really...but It was a bag of mixed emotions. I was ready to see how much my hair grew. Tired of washing and drying my tracks out every weekend for four hours. Ready to have full voluminous hair with all its kinky curly delights. Dreading combing it out when I was too lazy to braid it up at night.
The weave is a love-hate relationship for me. I am not addicted as some warned I might be but I liked going to the gym/pool/sweaty hot dance floor and not worrying about my hair! There were days when I wish I could fix my side burns or I would cringe to see my natural hair starting to peak from underneath! Low maintenance in some respects but there were limits in how creative I could get and it was not because I had short hair.
The process of taking it out took about two and half hours. My hair stylist said that I took good care of it (I moisturized it almost every other day with an applicator bottle). I also got a protein and deep condition treatment. I wore it as a wash 'n' go hairstyle for the first few days and applied a henna treatment this past weekend and did another deep conditioning treatment on it for good measure and its just so SOFT!!! I do see some split ends (more than usual) though which will get fixed/CUT from my life in a few weeks.
I figure not being exposed directly to all the elements, cold weather, humidity, etc (I've been in quite a few variable environments in the past few months) might of been beneficial on top of not combing my hair as often.
My mom and dad are happy, never were big fans of the weave to begin with and even people at my job were like I LIKE THIS ONE!!! (as proposed to the other one - or the one before?) It made me wonder was short hair not for me, or maybe it was the straight hair? I don't know but I don't intend to stop getting a weave based on other's opinions - As long as I like it, that's all that matters. I am thinking if I do two weaves a year that might help protect and further grow my hair, in addition I get to try new and different styles without chemically altering anything.
My next one I am going to get in the early spring (before summer...I can't imagine wearing a weave in the hot months, as much heat my body generates I would just be on fire!). I also plan on getting a curlier weave that resembles something like a twist out but probably softer in texture. I want and LOVE voluminousness in my life and I am going to try to get on those Solange levels but probably 5oz less that that...
